Wings shares the story of a very talented, compassionate and creative young woman, Kristine Seuylemezian, a junior at La Canada High School here in Southern California, her bond with her mother Kathy and how giving back has become the foundation of her life. Because of National Charity League, and Girl Scouts, and other endeavors like Varsity Swimming, Kristine has grown into a leader in her community.

"It is my
steadfast belief that every child deserves an education, and
every child’s future begins with a pencil."
Retta Jitner, Founder & President,
Pencils For Kids, Inc.
I
recently had the pleasure of meeting Retta Jitner, founder of Pencils for Kids,
Inc. an organization that provides school uniforms, notebooks and yes, pencils,
along with other school supplies, to children in parts of the world that do not

story starts as every good story starts: with a breakthrough AHA! moment.

“It takes
time to heal. You have to concentrate
every day on the healing process.”
Dominique Romero, Breast Cancer Survivor, Artist,

Love Notes: From a Mother to her Daughter.
I have been meaning to introduce Devon Williams to the Wings
community for quite some time. She
is a remarkable woman, professional, mother, spouse and a breast cancer
survivor. Devon is the founder of
One in Eight Photos (www.oneineightphotos.com)
and gives beauty new meaning to those who have survived breast cancer.
Devon is inspirational, compassionate and very creative. I devote this article to her and her
lovely thoughts for tomorrow’s Mother Day, May 8th, 2011.

installation of her major exhibition entitled “Pearls of Wisdom,” a two-year
project that involved working with 800 survivors of domestic violence and the
outstanding organization, A Window between Worlds, one of my favorite
organizations, (awbw.org.) This art exhibit is based on the powerful metaphor
of pearls, essentially grains of sand that are irritants to the oyster that
become things of beauty.
