Inspiring women in leadership

A Woman in the White House
October 6th, 2007

The polls, the money and her formidable machine tell us that Hillary Clinton is ahead of the pack in the Presidential race.

I wonder:

“Is this the type of female leadership we need today? Are these the feminine leadership characteristics we want in a candidate?”

Some say it’s about time a woman came into office. I believe it must be the right woman, the right person, as it should be with every leadership choice.

I would like to see a woman leader embody all of her innate leadership abilities as well as the one she learns from both men and other women. A woman emulating a man is simply that. But a woman who has learned to use both her feminine and masculine traits, a woman who has an informed, intelligent, compassionate and heart-felt approach to leadership and solving problems is what we need.

I urge you to read this Economist article (Hillary Clinton’s prospects) that examines why Hillary is a frontrunner and what her election might mean for America. I agree with their assessment and conclusion.

A recent Women’s eNews article “The Hillary Effect” notes that though female students aren’t sure they’ll vote for her most think she’ll spur more women into student government and campus politics. Are you seeing a Hillary Effect?

As always, we would love to hear from you.
